Paunat is centrally located between Bergerac, Périgueux and Sarlat, surrounded by many picturesque authentic villages.

Bergerac is known for its vineyards and wine chateaus, many organising tours and tastings. Bergerac itself has an old medieval centre with cosy streets full of pretty half-timbered houses. You can also fly into Bergerac airport and obtain a rental car should you wish to arrive by plane.

Périgueux, the capital of Dordogne, is best known for its Cathédral Saint-Front. Sarlat-La-Canéda has been called the most beautiful town in the Dordogne. The weekly market on Saturdays is very popular and crowded, with the whole town centre filled with stalls.

Paunat itself is a historic village with a 12th-century abbey and it is on one of the Compostella routes. The abbey was therefore a stopover for the many pilgrims passing through.

Just 10 minutes away is Limeuil, a village with several restaurants, workshops, a historic garden and a cosy terrace on the waterfront where the Vézere and Dordogne rivers meet. From the terrace you have views over 2 arched bridges and you can walk straight into the river where you and your dog(s) can swim. There is also a boarding point here for canoe rentals. A little further on is Plage Bac de Sors, a lovely stone beach with beautiful views of the rocky cliffs above the Dordogne. In summer, it has a friendly campsite-like atmosphere.

About 15 minutes’ drive away is Le Bugue. A larger town on the Vézere where you will find all necessary facilities such as several supermarkets, restaurants, museums, banks, etc. There is also a large market here every Tuesday morning with various household and regional products, with a cosy braderie-like atmosphere. For daily fresh bread, the nearest bakery is less than a 10-minute drive away in St Alvère, where you will also find a small neighbourhood supermarket.
