Nature and experience

The Dordogne is a very green department with rich flora and fauna. The soil is very fertile, it is sometimes said that “you only have to put a stick in the ground and a tree will grow”. There is a great variety of greenery to discover.

From the gîtes you can walk straight into the forest with its many footpaths, but don’t be alarmed if you come face to face with a deer. Besides the many deer, there are also wild boars, badgers, birds of prey, foxes, etc. in the woods around us. There is even a chance of spotting a herd of mouflon. In short, lots of nature, interspersed with farmland, small streams, beautiful views over the hills and valleys.

Besides enjoying all the peace and quiet or the pool, there is also plenty to do in the area. From water fun to cave hiking. There are several canoe embarkation points for beautiful trips on the Vézere and Dordogne rivers.

For those who prefer to keep their heads above water, there are hiking and cycling routes (mtb), golf courses, horse riding and of course visiting one of the many castles is worthwhile. The Dordogne is not known for nothing for its “1001 castles valley”. From Le Bugue to Sarlat, there are numerous caves to visit, such as the Lascaux Caves.

For those who want to go higher up, you can also book hot-air balloon rides, so you can see all the beauty from above.

The many medieval villages around us all have their own weekly markets on different days, every day there is a market somewhere.

There are also brocante and flea markets (vide-greniers) in the area all year round.

If you like good food and conviviality, a visit to a Marché Gourmand in one of the villages in July and August is definitely worthwhile.Bring your own plate and cutlery and sit down to eat. There are several food stalls, food trucks and there is often music. In short, lots of fun on the village square!
